Inaugural Daniel G. Doerr Virtual Walk/Run for Diabetes
Inaugural Daniel G. Doerr Virtual Walk/Run for Diabetes Race Description
In memory of Daniel, our family is encouraging everyone to do what he would have wanted, to simply walk in the outdoors and enjoy the knowing of being able to walk without pain. This is the first annual walk/run but certainly won't be the last. We hope you join us and look forward to all of your wonderful, fun, crazy, exciting race photos by yourself, with family or friends! Please upload them to our race FB page where we will keep everyone informed of race entry status and fundraising goals.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and November 14th is Global Diabetes Awareness Day. For this reason we have chosen the weekend of Nov 14-15, 2020 for this year's race. Participants will have the full weekend to complete their chosen race length. Most race lengths are available because we want to encourage going out and doing what you love to do or what you are trying to learn to love :)
Anyone that lets us know they are walking/running in memory of someone who passed away from diabetes or is participating in support of someone like our father, Daniel, who was a long-time sufferer of it's effects, we will create individual FB posts in honor of your Loved One as a special tribute and thank you.
If you are a walker - you are a runner in training
If you are a jogger - scratch that idea - you are a runner
If you are a runner - keep it going and pass on your love for it
Although this is a virtual event and a "it's my race my pace" fun run, we will be sending out race medals for the fastest race times for both male/female in the following categories:
Under 25
Age 26-45
Age 46-65
66 and over
Please submit a photo of your race time with date to our FB page. All race times must be submitted by November 17, 2020 to be considered.
Proceeds: All proceeds of this race will be donated to the American Diabetes Association in memory of our father, Daniel G. Doerr.
Shirts and Goodies: A commemorative race shirt is available for $15. Please have your order in no later than October 15, 2020 to ensure receipt by race day. Any orders placed after that date will be delivered but we cannot guarantee receipt by race day. Race bibs will be mailed to everyone who registers by November 1st.
Timing-Results: Post a photo of your race results via Garmin, Connect, FitBit, Apple Watch etc.) no later than November 17th to our FB race page to be added to the overall race results. Winners will be announced on the FB page by Friday, November 20th.
The Legal Stuff: Since you are running on your own, participation is at your own risk, and by participating you consent to the standard waiver/release of liability. I waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages I may have against this virtual race, its sponsors and their representatives, successors and assigns for any and all injuries suffered by me in said event. I attest that I will participate in this event and honestly the race length chosen in my registration and that I will complete the race by either indoor or outdoor means. I am physically fit and sufficiently trained for the completion of this event.
NOW - Get out there and run and let's cure diabetes!
