International FOXP1 Foundation Virtual 5k Race Description

We are back with the 2nd Annual Virtual 5k hosted by International FOXP1 Foundation
We, as a community, raised $27,000 last year!! With this money, the foundation was able to financially support 7 families so that they could attend the Family Gathering and Conference held in Long Island, New York, this past June. It also assisted in hosting 48 families at the conference, which consisted of 92 adults, 16 siblings and 34 individuals with FOXP1 Syndrome, ranging from 2.5 years old-38 years old. It was truly a life changing experience and we hope to raise even more money this year for future gatherings and research opportunities into the FOXP1 gene.

FOXP1 syndrome is considered a rare disease that is caused by a mutation or change to the FOXP1 gene. The gene is located on chromosome 3 and includes the instructions or “recipe” for making the FOXP1 protein.  As a member of a family of transcription factors, it is vital in regulating the expression of other genes.  FOXP1 controls when and how specific genes affect the development of the nervous system, along with many other systems. When a gene like FOXP1 does not function properly it can lead to a wide range of developmental delays and medical needs.

The International FOXP1 Foundation is a registered non-profit organization that is managed and staffed by parent volunteers. We are committed to supporting those who have been impacted by FOXP1 Syndrome and we strive to establish regular venues for fundraising in an effort to further research and possible treatments.

Let us come together to raise awareness for our loved ones with FOXP1 Syndrome. This is a time for us celebrate their successes and the joys that they bring to our lives, while also teaching our communities about FOXP1 Syndrome.

Thank you for your support! We cannot wait to run/walk with you and raise awareness of FOXP1 Syndrome!

How a virtual race works: you pick the location, you pick the start time, time your 5k, and use the BIB number assigned to you at registration to log your time on the website. You can register individually or create a team with a personal fundraising goal. It’s easy and fun!

How to register: Click the “sign-up” button to sign up. After you sign up, a BIB number will be sent to you. You will use this bib number to enter your race time through the website. You will be able to see each participant’s time and place as they are entered into the portal. Registration is currently open, and you will be able to walk/run anytime between August 11, 2023 12:00am EST-August 13, 2023 11:59 EST.

*All proceeds will go directly to funding future family meet ups and conferences, along with research into the FOXP1 gene and possible treatments*
