October Half-Marathon & Distance Races Description

The 14th annual Half Marathon & Races will consist of a 13.1 mile run, 10k run and a 5k walk. The race will start/finish at the YMCA. This race is our fastest growing race based on prior year participation levels.

REGISTRATION:

The first 200 10k & 5k race participants registered will be guaranteed a cotton t-shirt. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY as we can’t guarantee a t-shirt the week of the race. Online registration closes at 11:00AM on Friday, October 4.

Racers must wear race number to show that you are a race participant. You will have a certain color bib pertaining to what race you are participating in.  If you want to change races, you may do so by calling the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA at 695-4467 before race day. NO CHANGES ON RACE DAY! If you lose your bib or need a new one issued, for any reason, there will be a $5 fee assessed. For safety reasons, headsets of any kind and pets are not permitted.

NO race registration reimbursements. Remember, if you cannot make it to the event, your registration fee is going towards a good cause.

HALF-MARATHON PARTICIPANTS: You have the choice to select a cotton shirt or unisex tech shirt for this race when registering before PRE-REGISTRATION rates. You must write "cotton" beside your shirt size on your race brochure if you would like to opt for a cotton shirt and not a tech shirt. If registering online you MUST contact the YMCA (695-4467 and ask for Frank Kopriva) if you decide to select a cotton shirt as you will automatically be registered with a tech shirt. Tech shirts will be unisex sizing this year so be sure to pick your size accordingly.

COURSE INFORMATION:

Half Marathon Race:

The Half Marathon race is challenging with rolling hills accentuating the course. Start/finish at the Blair Regional YMCA. Must be 16 years old by race day to participate. We will have cones, signs and road marshals, however, it is your responsibility as a racer to familiarize yourself of the course. The markings will be in white with a “1/2”. Course is NOT closed to traffic so please be aware of your surroundings at all times. There will be a port-a-john on the course at about the 2 ½ mile/10 ½ mile markers.

Water stations will be available roughly every 2 miles. We will also provide gels at the mile 8 water station.

VERY IMPORTANT: You MUST be at the water station on Scotch Valley Road by the 10.2 mile mark within 2hrs. If you are not, you have the choice to either wait for the follow vehicle to take you back to the finish OR finish on your own which means you will need to obey all traffic signs and may not have the support of the last water station. Either way, you will NOT receive a finishing time.

10K Run:

You will start out in the same direction of the Half Marathon runners, however, you’ll turn around after the 3rd Mile. Follow the arrows, cones and road marshals to the Finish at the Blair Regional YMCA. Please look at the map to familiarize yourself of the course. There will be waters stations about every 2 miles.

5k Walk:

5k course will start out the same as the Half Marathon and 10K, however, you will turn around in the Hollidaysburg Ambulance parking lot. Once on Penn Street/Rte 36, please stay to the right of the cones and on the sidewalk the whole way until you get to the Hollidaysburg Post Office.

When turning left on Allegheny Street, please stay to the side at all times while on the course as the roads will not be totally closed to traffic. Please look before turning to make sure you do not cross in front of traffic or the 10k runners coming through.

RACE PACKET PICK-UP:

Race packets will be available for pick up starting the Thursday before the race. Packets will also be available the day of race at the Blair Regional YMCA between 6:30-7:45am.

AWARDS:

Awards will be given out immediately following the race. We will be awarding medals for the following categories: Top 5 overall Half-Marathon males & females will receive a prize as well as ALL HALF-MARATHON FINISHERS will receive a medal.

Awards will also be given out to the 10K run & 5k walk overall top finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in the following age categories: 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & Over

Awards winners are asked to remain for the Awards Ceremony as no awards will be mailed.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

We are looking for volunteers to help as road marshals along the race course. As a road marshal you will receive a race t-shirt and food after the race. Ask a friend, family member or co-worker to come along with you and enjoy all the excitement of helping out and cheering on the race participants!

If you are interested in volunteering for the race or have any questions, please contact Phyllis at 695-4467. We thank you in advance for your volunteered time!

RACE PARKING:

We recommend you come as early as 7am to get a parking spot close to the YMCA.
